I've had three careers and 11 different jobs in 20 years, so I know a thing or two about applying and interviewing. I've often been hired to build departments from scratch and in doing so, have reviewed thousands of resumes and cover letters; however, I was increasingly disappointed in what was crossing my desk.
Resume after resume basically told me an applicant did his or her job...nothing more. Why would I want to hire someone who was just concerned about clocking in and out? I wanted hires who could hit the ground running, sharing their experiences and skills to make our organization the best it could be.
As I was completing my Doctor of Education in Organizational Change and Leadership, I decided to shift my research to understand WHY people left jobs and companies, which resulted in a successful study about the effects of organizational culture on employee engagement. I now work with both sides: helping applicants understand how to communicate their successes to companies, and teaching companies how to attract and retain top talent.
My research takes me around the world, presenting to and training hundreds of HR and communications professionals each year. And in my online career courses, I bring my expertise to you in the comfort of your own home.
